A Guide to Genie+ at Walt Disney World

If you’re planning one of your first trips to Walt Disney World, you might feel like you’re having to learn a new vocabulary. Lightning Lane, Advanced Dining Reservations, and different resort tiers - it can feel like you need a college course before going on a trip. It does this by providing personalized itineraries, and Lightning Lane options, which reduces your time waiting in line for select attractions. How Does Genie+ Work?

You can access Genie+ on the My Disney Experience app on your smartphone. Prior to travel, your Be Our Guest Vacations travel professional will walk you through creating an account and/or signing in, then linking your vacation package to your account. Pro Tip: Write your password down somewhere in your phone!

At this time Genie+ can't be purchased or added to your vacation package prior to travel. However, day by day during your Walt Disney World vacation, guests can purchase Genie+ for each park day. Genie+ pricing fluctuates depending on season and anticipated crowds. I have seen Genie+ range between $15-$40 per person, per day. If you’re visiting the park during peak times, like Spring Break, or Christmas, you can plan on it being on the high-cost end. I always add it to my budget for my trip - for me, it’s a non-negotiable, like factoring in the cost of multiple Dole Whips every day! 

Most people would consider Lightning Lane Reservations to be the number one reason to purchase Genie+. Lighting Lane allows you to skip the regular line, and wait a considerably shorter amount of time. Trust me - there’s no better feeling than getting to skip a line for a ride that has an hour + wait time! You can make one Lightning Lane reservation at a time and will be able to book additional ones after using your initial reservation, or after a designated waiting period. Not every ride is available for Lighting Lane, but a good portion are.

Some E-Ticket attractions, like Tron Lightcyle/Run, are not available with your daily Genie+ purchase but can be bought a la carte, in a pay-per-ride system. It’s important to note that what rides are included with Genie+ are up to the discretion of the Big Cheese himself and can change or fluctuate.
