D23 Announcements for Walt Disney World

August 14, 2024 by Laura Pitcher

D23 took place this weekend, which is sort of like the Super Bowl for Disney fans. If you aren’t familiar with D23, it’s an official fan club for fans of the Walt Disney Company. Every year, they hold the ‘ultimate fan event’, where Disney makes all kinds of announcements about the company, and what is to come. Arguably, one of the most popular parts of the event, is that they always make announcements on what’s to come for the Disney Parks. This year, they made HUGE announcements that will change the landscape of Walt Disney World. Below are the announcements that we have to look forward to for the Florida Parks.

A Disney Villians Land for The Magic Kingdom

The announcement that everyone has been waiting for, a Disney Villians Land is coming to The Magic Kingdom. If the lines to meet villains at Mickey’s Not So Scary Party are any indicator, there’s a huge fan base for the Disney characters we love to hate, and soon, they will have their own land themed to them. Disney describes this land and says in the announcement that ‘the evil ambition of all these Villains means that the possibilities are endless for the stories that can be told — and visitors to the dark and thorny land should be prepared for whatever chaos might come their way.’

A ‘Monsters, Inc.’ Land Is Coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios

It’s time to laugh with Mike and Sully because a new land themed after this incredible Pixar film is headed to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This land will also feature the first ‘Monsters, Inc.’ roller coaster, which will take you to the famous door scene in the film. In the announcement, Disney said ‘If you’ve been dreaming of riding through the door vault since the movie was released in 2001, you’re not alone — Josh has been thinking about this, too. “The first time I saw Monsters, Inc., all I wanted to do was ride on one of those doors like Mike and Sulley,” he told the crowd. “You’ll go into the factory and experience the first suspended coaster ever in a Disney park. Remember in the movie how those claws grab the doors and hoist them up into the air to take them away? We’re doing that, too. And you’re going along for the ride.”

New ‘Encanto’ and ‘Indiana Jones’ Attractions Coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom

It’s time to say goodbye to DinoLand U.S.A. - it’s being replaced with a Tropical Americas Land. According to Disney, ‘the space will be lush and sprawling, featuring a large fountain in the center where the villagers like to gather and tell stories. Additionally, a woodcarver has created a giant working carousel featuring his favorite animals from Disney stories. It’s a new take on a classic attraction that young families are going to love.’ There’s even more to be excited about though, because this land will be home to not one, but two new attractions. One will be based on Indiana Jones, and the other is Encanto.

Two ‘Cars’-Themed Rides Will Come to Frontierland in The Magic Kingdom

The wildest ride in the wilderness is getting some new neighbors - Frontierland in The Magic Kingdom will be expanding, with two new rides themed after the Pixar movie Cars. When Disney announced this, they said that ‘one attraction will invite you on a thrilling rally race through the mountains.

Take on wild terrain as you race across the landscape climbing mountain trails, dodging geysers, and — Mater’s favorite — splashing through mud holes. But what about smaller racers? The second attraction will be geared towards them and will be fun for the whole family!

A New Nighttime Parade Coming to The Magic Kingdom

My favorite memories of being a kid in a Disney Park are watching the nightly electrical parade in The Magic Kingdom, so this is the announcement I’m most excited about!

Next year, a new nighttime parade called Disney Starlight will begin next summer. Disney said that ‘Disney Starlight” will continue the nighttime spectacular legacy started by the “Main Street Electrical Parade” using the latest technology to tell new stories about the characters you love. All of this is brought to life by the magic of the Blue Fairy, in addition to beloved characters from Walt Disney Animation Studios films “Peter Pan,” “Encanto,” “Frozen,” and more.’

This brand new nighttime parade at Magic Kingdom will debut in Summer 2025!
