If there’s one thing I love about visiting Universal Orlando Resort, it’s discovering experiences that completely surprise me and this year’s Universal Mardi Gras: International Flavors of Carnaval celebration did exactly that.

I’ve always known Universal for the thrills and the nonstop fun…but I’ll be honest, I didn’t fully realize just how incredible their Mardi Gras event truly is. And now? It’s officially a can’t-miss experience I’ll be recommending to my clients again and again.

So what is Mardi Gras at Universal?

Exclusive to Universal Studios Florida this family friendly event typically runs from early February through early April and transforms the park into a vibrant celebration inspired by Carnaval festivities from around the world.  

• It features a high-energy parade
• Stunning themed floats
• Bead tossing fun (yes, you will leave with handfuls!)
• Live concerts on select nights 
• And incredible cultural festive foods!  

The best part? No separate event ticket is required! Everything is included with your regular park ticket.

The Food: A Global Experience

Mardi Gras at Universal features food booths inspired by countries around the world. It’s like traveling globally without leaving the park. You can snack your way through New Orleans- inspired classics, Caribbean flavors, Latin specialties, European bites and more!  These special offerings are event exclusive and items you won’t find year-round. 

My personal favorites?  The Spanakopita from Greece- perfectly flaky and savory!  Warm, pillowy beignets from the Taste of the Quarter and the Chicken & Sausage Gumbo from the Bourbon Street booth which truly felt like a little taste of New Orleans right in the park.  

What I loved most about all of the event food offerings was the thoughtful variety.  Every booth offered something different.  There was bold spices, sweet treats, comforting classics, creative twists and truly something for everyone. It gives your Universal day an extra spark that makes everything feel more festive.

The Parade: Immersive and Unlike Any Other

I need to pause here and take a moment to talk about the floats. They were absolutely breathtaking.  The level of detail, the vibrant colors, the craftsmanship on every single float- it’s like watching a moving piece of art.  They tell stories, they celebrate culture and are so thoughtfully designed that you won’t want to stop staring!  

The Mardi Gras parade is electric! It felt immersive, festive and authentic.  I’ve watched a lot of parades in my life, but this one truly felt different. It instantly makes you feel part of the celebrations and is one of those experiences that makes you laugh like a kid again!   Music is pumping, performers are dancing, confetti is flying and it truly felt like a full-scale production making you feel like you were experiencing something special and unique.  There were moments I just stood in awe thinking, “This is so much more than I ever expected it to be.”  Like you were part of something bigger than just a parade in a theme park. 

Float Ride & Dine: The Experience that Changes Everything!

This is a fun way to elevate your day or night at Universal Studios Florida! It is a special add-on that combines a reserved dining experience with the opportunity to actually ride on one of the Mardi Gras parade floats.  Depending on the time of your parade, you’ll enjoy a 3-Course Meal included with your ticket before or after your parade. You are escorted backstage where the excitement begins as soon as you are met with a Universal Team Member. 

The team walks you through everything before boarding your float. From there, you will roll through the parade route tossing beads to the energetic crowds below. It’s organized, energetic and incredibly well done.  Instead of just watching the celebration, you are fully a part of it. Whether you’re a couple, a family or a larger group- the team guides you to feel comfortable and ready to have the time of your life!  

The Float Ride & Dine experience is something I will recommend wholeheartedly to anyone considering Universal Orlando Resort during this time of year!  Yes, it’s fun to watch the parade, but riding on the float is next-level fun! It elevates the entire Mardi Gras experience. A few more details about riding a float:

All riders must be:

• At least 48” in height and able to board the float and stand for the duration of the parade (about 45 minutes)
• 18 or older (or accompanied by their legal guardian)
• Able to transfer to a Universal‐provided wheelchair

Stay Close to the Party: The Perks of Staying Onsite

If you’re visiting during Mardi Gras season, I can’t recommend staying onsite at a Universal Resort enough.
