The past few years every party has sold out. Why is it so popular? Read on for insight on what makes this party so special and frightfully fun. PLUS a not so scary tricks to make the most out of your Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party time, depending on your interests and enjoyment.
Not So Scary entertainment
For me, there's no doubt why this event is so popular year after year. The shows and entertainment at Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween party are simply outstanding, some of the best I've experienced at Walt Disney World all year!
Even if you're not typically a fan of castle stage shows or parades, you might discover that they becomes the highlight of your evening. Mickey’s “Boo-to-You” Halloween Parade is incredibly unique and enjoyable; last year I couldn't resist watching it twice in one night! The performers and entertainment team involved in the show exude such passion for what they do, and that energy infectiously spreads to the guests. I found the newly added floats featuring Minnie, Daisy, and Clarabelle as the Sanderson sisters, along with the hitchhiking ghosts from the Haunted Mansion (a timeless favorite), to be particularly ghoulish delights.
Mickey’s “Boo-to-You” Halloween Parade tip
If you're aiming for fewer crowds, staying later can be a strategic choice! The second parade tends to be much less packed than the first, primarily because families with young children may not stay as late into the evening. So, if you're planning to enjoy the festivities all night long, opting for the second parade is a fantastic idea!
However, heed this warning: It's wise to check the weather forecast using a reliable app beforehand! Much of the entertainment at Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party is weather-dependent. If there are thunderstorms or lightning predicted later in the evening, catching the first parade might be a safer bet in case the second one gets canceled due to inclement weather!
It's all just a bunch of Hocus Pocus!
Ready to run amok? Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular might be my favorite element of Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party. I’m not even personally a hocus-pocus fan (I was a wimp as a child and still hate the thought of that movie…) but this show is a lot of fun and you get to see some unique villain characters that don’t usually appear in Disney parks!
Again, if you can make it for the second or especially the third show, crowds will be smaller and you’ll have an easier time viewing the Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular from up front. Or you can do what I did and watch Mickey’s “Boo-to-You” Halloween Parade from just in front of the castle, and then towards the end of the parade quickly walk right in front of Cinderella‘s castle to claim your spot for the next Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular show! Bring a popcorn bucket or a Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party exclusive snack, and the time will pass quickly.
Unique characters
When it comes to distinctive characters, another fantastic aspect of this party is the opportunity to meet characters that you wouldn't encounter otherwise. Getting to meet all Seven Dwarfs simultaneously or interacting with Jack and Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas are exclusive meet-and-greets only available during the party! These unique character encounters can be quite popular, so it's wise to collaborate with your Be Our Guest Vacations travel agent to strategize whom to line up for first and at what time!
Overall atmosphere
This might not be an official party feature, but for me, one of the main attractions of this event is the one-of-a-kind atmosphere it creates in Magic Kingdom. Guests come ready to have a blast and often go all out with their Halloween attire. You'll see some wearing playful Halloween-themed T-shirts or sporting spooky accessories. Then there are those whose costumes are so intricate they could easily pass as authentic Disney characters. Personally, I find delight in people-watching during this event; being surrounded by others in the festive spirit of Halloween adds an extra layer of enjoyment to the party at Magic Kingdom. The energy and creativity on display make it a memorable experience for everyone involved!
Dance parties
Heading to the party with your littles? Incorporating a dance party or two at Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party is a great idea! Burn off some energy and have some fun! If your kids are obsessed with the Disney Channel movies (like mine are) they will love the Zombies dance party in Tomorrowland! And toddlers are sure to enjoy the Disney Junior Jam with one-on-one attention from some of their favorite Disney Junior characters such as Vampirina.
Sneak in a ride on Tron: Lightcycle/Run
The extra bonus no one seems to be talking about is getting in an extra ride on Tron: Lightcycle/Run. The best new attraction at Magic Kingdom! I actually missed out on the virtual queue during my trip and wasn’t able to ride on Tron on my Magic Kingdom days this trip, so I was so excited that Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party offered an extra attempt at a virtual queue.
Halloween Party guests can attempt another virtual queue at 6:00 PM for their party night. You do not have to be in the park to attempt this virtual queue. I was able to get a boarding group and was called around 8:30 PM.
My walk-through, pre-ride show and ride experience were about 20-25 minutes total! So not only did I get to ride this amazing attraction at night (which is such an elevated experience!) but the wait time in the virtual queue was pretty minimal for such an incredible attraction.
