Sailing Disney Cruise Line without Kids

November 7, 2023 by Jamie Winters Morgan

When you think of a cruise aboard Disney Cruise Line, the first thing that pops into your head is probably a kid-friendly vacation with lots of family fun. That isn't the only way to experience the activities and relaxation of a Disney Cruise, though! My personal favorite stress-free way to vacation with a group of adults is on a cruise, and Disney Cruise Line is always my top choice. Disney does a great job of creating activities, spaces and experiences that appeal to adults, and sometimes you can forget that there are even kids onboard! The children's activity spaces on Disney Cruise Line are so engaging that the kids don't want to leave, which makes the adult spaces feel serene and set apart.

Adults Only Spaces

Pools & Sundecks

Each Disney Cruise Line ship has an adults only sundeck with pools and whirlpool spas. These areas also always have a bar nearby to grab a beverage to enjoy on the more luxury loungers that are sprinkled throughout the space. Sometimes there is even live music in the area to improve the atmosphere (not that it really gets better than a kid free pool space on a cruise!). The main adult pool deck spaces on all five Disney Cruise Line ships are called the Quiet Cove Pool, and the Disney Dream and Fantasy also have the Satellite Falls wading pool area at the front of the ship, which I find to be a much quieter space generally.

Bars & Lounges

While the children's activity spaces onboard are well known for their exquisite theming, Disney doesn't leave out the adults. The adult entertainment spaces include multiple bars and lounges on each ship, and they are highly themed so you can always find a space that suits your vibe! On the four original ships, the nighttime entertainment districts are mostly grouped together into one space, After Hours on the Magic & Wonder, The District on the Dream, and Europa on the Fantasy. Disney changed things up a bit on the newest ship, with the bars and lounges on the Wish more scattered throughout (so there is always one nearby!).

Senses Spa, Fitness Center & Salons

If relaxation and rejuvenation are your goals, then the Senses Spa and Fitness centers might be the adult spaces for you. All five ships have a Senses Spa, where you can go for spa treatments like massages, facials or acupuncture. The four original ships have salons adjoining the spa, but the new Disney Wish has created separate spaces for the Untangled Salon & Hook's Barbery, where guests can get a trim, pedicure or even a shave! My personal favorite space on any Disney Cruise Line ship is the Rainforest Room, where relaxation is the goal. With aromatherapy showers, steam rooms, hydrotherapy tubs & heated loungers, guests can unwind in style.

Serenity Bay

There is even an adults only space if you are lucky enough to stop at Disney Castaway Cay! A secluded beach with a separate dining location, a dedicated bar, and private cabanas, Serenity Bay is just as it is named, serene. There is nothing better than a quiet afternoon reading a book on your hammock in the sun (or let's be real, napping with your book on your lap!) next to the clear blue Bahamian water.

Adult Dining

If you are looking for a more refined upscale dining experience than the main dining rooms (which are super fun and well themed), all Disney Cruise Line ships offer specialty dining for adults only. All of these options require a reservation and are an additional charge.

Palo & Palo Steakhouse

This Italian inspired restaurant offers dinner each night of your sailing and brunch during most sea days (my favorite!). They are well known for their Chicken Parmesan, Dover Sole & Chocolate Soufflé.

Remy

The Disney Dream & Fantasy offer a French inspired multi-course dining experience inspired by your favorite little chef, Remy. They also offer a brunch on sea days and a dessert only experience as well.

Enchante

Inspired by Lumiere from Beauty and the Beast, Enchante is the newest fine dining option on the Disney Wish. We were lucky enough to dine here with great friends just a few weeks ago and we were blown away by the service along with the variety and quality of our meal.

Activities for Adults

Disney Cruise Line really has something for everyone, including those guests who want to see and do it all while onboard! Your Disney Cruise Line Navigator app will show you tons of exciting activities, including some options for adults only.

Beverage Seminars

For those guests who are interested in learning more about their favorite adult beverage, Disney Cruise Line offers a variety of beverage seminars where you can sample and learn more about your favorite spirits. We always make sure to schedule a few of these "educational" seminars when we're sailing. Mixology classes are always a popular choice, but we also enjoyed champagne & reserve bourbon tastings on our last voyage. These activities do come with an extra fee, but they tend to be a great value for the number of drinks that you get to partake in.

Interactive Entertainment

If sitting back and relaxing isn't your idea of a good time, Disney Cruise Line offers tons of interactive entertainment to keep you busy. Game shows like Match Your Mate will test how well your fellow cruisers know their partner, often with hilarious (and sometimes a bit risqué) results! Silent DJ parties are offered for all ages and later at night for the adults only crowd, where guests don headphones with multiple channels and boogie to their own beat. If you are a know-it-all, check out one of the many trivia sessions that are offered to try your hand at winning a mickey medallion, or sign up for a game of Bingo to win big!

Be A Kid Yourself!

Even if you aren't traveling with little ones, that doesn't mean that you can't experience all of the fun of acting like a kid yourself! Meet some of your favorite characters, check out the kids' club open houses, or dance to one of the themed deck parties - the fun never stops!
