Let’s learn more about the party!
Last year, I had the immense pleasure of taking my family to Walt Disney World and attending one of the first Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party dates for the 2023 season. I have been previously, but it has been a while and I knew some things had changed, but I was excited about everything Disney had in store for us!
A little bit of a background: On this trip was my husband and myself, my parents and my 5 year old son who also has ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder), so we had a lot of unique perspectives this go around.
Much like Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is a separately-ticketed event and guests will need to purchase an event ticket to enter Magic Kingdom Park on select evenings November 8 to December 20 from 7:00 pm to midnight.
During our party, guests were able to line up outside of the main gate and get into Magic Kingdom Park with a party ticket starting at 4:00 pm. Festivities didn’t begin until the official party start time of 7:00, but we were able to get some food, walk around, and get some pictures to start getting into that holiday spirit!
TRIP TIP: When traveling with our littlest Disney fan, we found that on party days we do not go to a park, but prefer to have a relaxing pool day. We try and save his energy, get a late nap in and hopefully have him stay up for the majority of the party. We did just that, and our boy was able to experience all of the shows there were to offer. Then coupled with lining up to enter right at 4:00 pm, we were able to hit all of his favorite rides too, it was perfect!
Attractions all the way
Once the party officially starts, you’ll notice some magical enhancements to some of your favorite attractions. We were able to experience Space Mountain by shooting through space to a holiday heavy soundtrack and festive interior lighting. There are a few other attractions with holiday layovers that you can only experience at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, but our absolute favorite has to be the Tomorrowland Speedway.
Now admittedly, we don’t typically go on this one throughout the year only because my son hasn’t shown interest, but during the holidays it’s a completely different story… One of our favorite holiday traditions is driving around the neighborhood and looking at all of the holiday lights. So when you pair it with Walt Disney World, it’s a match made in heaven!
The extra magic of the holidays
During the party, you will get to Deck the Halls alongside Mickey and the gang with exclusive entertainment including:
- Mickey’s Once Upon A Christmas Parade
- Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks Show
- Mickey’s Most Merriest Celebration
- Frozen Holiday Surprise
- Club Tinsel
- Disney Junior Jingle Jam
- Character Greetings
Let’s highlight a few of these experiences:
Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks Show
Our favorite leading lady, Minnie Mouse herself, takes the stage to start your jingle journey through many favorite classic carols, while the castle comes alive with the holiday spirit and “dances along.” It wouldn’t be Magic Kingdom without a heart-stopping fireworks display to go with it! Every time we got a “big boomer” as we lovingly call the big fireworks, my son would yell “WOAH!” at the top of his lungs. I don’t care how old you are, seeing fireworks over Cinderella Castle at any time of the year is impressive every single time.
TRIP TIP: Contact your Be Our Guest Vacations agent to make sure you are planning a visit to Magic Kingdom Park during a non-party night to view the dazzling journey of color, light and song that captures the heart, humor and heroism of favorite Disney stories that is Happily Ever After.
We loved being able to give my son room to bust a merry move during these revamped renditions. I think my personal favorite personality the castle took on was that of a cozy Christmas sweater vibe.
Mickey’s Most Merriest Celebration
We loved this stage show! We loved the dancers and the live performances of music, coupled with our favorite characters dressed in their holiday best. When you see Donald take the stage with Jose and Pancito as the Three Caballeros and sing Feliz Navidad, do you ever want to go back to real life? No, no you do not! Does it get better? Maybe! Because then to your dazzling delight Mickey and Minnie ride in on their sleigh as Santa and Mrs. Claus.
Disney Junior Jingle Jam
Over at Storybook Circus is the perfect place for your little ones to get out their little wiggles with their favorite characters from Disney Junior. The Disney Junior Jingle Jam combines the fun of a holiday DJ and that of Disney magic with character appearances. In past years, characters like Vampirina, Doc McStuffins, Fancy Nancy, Timon and Santa Goofy have all joined in the fun.
During Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, they did something similar and my little guy danced with Timon. It was very cute and different from a quick meet and greet photo.
We love this because the area they are in is enclosed, so you can give your child a little more freedom to cut up the dance floor without worry that you are going to lose him through the crowd.
TRIP TIP: In addition to the Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party exclusive snacks and sweet treats that are available for purchase, we recommend taking advantage of the hot cocoa and cookie stops included for free with your party ticket! Grab a hot cocoa and cookie, then find a seat to rest your feet while you watch your child spend some time with a beloved character.
Mickey’s Once Upon A Christmas Parade
Walt Disney World has added so many great extras as far as entertainment for this party throughout the years, but there is one thing that has remained a constant joy for children of all ages… souvenirs. Just kidding (kind of)! Children love seeing their favorite friends spread some holiday cheer during Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas Parade!
Since its initial television debut in 1983, Walt Disney World has honored this special tradition by bringing it to Magic Kingdom Park not only on Christmas Day, but several times during the holiday season during Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. For as long as I can remember, my family has watched this parade on Christmas morning waiting for Santa to make his long awaited appearance in his magnificent sleigh with the reindeer leading the way. Personally, my favorite part was always seeing the Toy Soldiers!
Fast forward to watching the parade with not only my parents and husband, but my son as well. As soon as those Toy Soldiers came marching down the street with the shiniest, most polished red coats on, I was 10 years old again grinning ear to ear. I had the same magic feeling at 34 as I did when I was a child, and I was now watching my son experience that same magic as the “snow” started to fall on Main Street, U.S.A.
The magic lives on
Holiday magic lives on through our traditions at home and away, and continues at Walt Disney World. Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is sure to be a new favorite tradition for anybody looking to keep the wonderment of the season going for years to come. If you are thinking about visiting Walt Disney World, consider going during this time to experience a heightened sense of magic around the entire property.
In addition to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at Magic Kingdom Park, Disney Jollywood Nights at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and the EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays, make sure to head over to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park to experience Merry Menagerie where artisan puppets come to life. In addition, some of our favorite traditions don’t require a ticket, like over at Disney Springs for their Christmas Tree Stroll and the fan-favorite Gingerbread Displays at some of the Deluxe Resorts.
There is so much to do during the holidays at Walt Disney World that you can’t go wrong, but there is only one choice when it comes to planning your getaway. Be Our Guest Vacations is here to help you navigate everything from Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party to a self-guided tour of holiday decorations at the resorts!
